A charge of possession of child pornography should be taken seriously. Not only does conviction carry with it the possibility of more than 30 years in prison, but it also requires that you register as a sex offender, which can negatively impact your ability to obtain any housing or employment following your release from prison.
Child pornography is a class 2 felony that when convicted, the charge carries a mandatory minimum of four to 15 years in prison, or 30 years if any of the images are of children under age 13. Conviction of possession of child pornography also requires registration as a sex offender.
A Kyle, Texas, coach, and teacher resigned prior to his arrest for possession of child pornography. Police said the 29-year old power-lifting coach, received nude photos from an underage former student.
The affidavit said the coach’s wife called police after she found inappropriate text messages and two nude pictures of the girl on her husband’s phone. When she confronted him about the photos, the former coach allegedly said he only texted the juvenile when he was drunk.
Police said his wife then called the girl, who told the spouse he began sending her inappropriate messages in 2016 after he stopped working at her high school in Italy, Texas.
The coach was immediately placed on administrative leave and was not allowed on campus or near any students.
This is just one of the many cases why you should consult and seek help from a defense lawyer when you are accused of a crime including child pornography. No one is above the law, even if you are a high-ranking government official.
