Despite numerous public campaigns against the dangers of driving while drunk, every year thousands of people are still getting arrested and penalized with prison sentences and heavy fines for DWI Conviction. If you’ve been drinking at a party or celebrating, it’s a bad idea to drive if you’ve had a drink or two. Drunk drivers cause serious and fatal accidents. The numbers are frightening than you might think.
During the Christmas Eve of 2017, a patrol police officer was killed and another officer was injured when an impaired driver swerved off the road and slammed into the officer patrol vehicle, which was parked near an on-ramp.
The police officer had been in the position for a year and a half. He was killed just before midnight on Christmas Eve. Another officer was injured.
A wife lost her husband and three children lost their father because of a person driving under the influence today,” Acevedo wrote on Twitter. Too many lives are cut short by DWI, according to the police chief.
Reports stated that the driver who hit the officers, a 22-year-old Hayward man, was hospitalized with serious injuries. He is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, specifically marijuana. The driver’s name has not been released.
The police officers urged Houston drivers to slow down when they see police vehicles on the highway when an officer was critically injured after a traffic stop. The driver was later charged with intoxicated assault of a public servant.
The story above is just one of the many reasons why you should not drive while under influence of alcohol. Lives of the victim’s matters, and so does yours.
