Sexual assault is one of the most common criminal charges in Texas. If not defended properly by an assault lawyer, it could lead to a more serious consequence.
The following story is one of the many examples of why you should consider hiring an experienced lawyer to help you properly defend your case.
In Houston, two men were both sentenced to 15 years in prison on unrelated felony charges of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact
One of the accused is a 50-year old man who was convicted of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact after evidence was presented and revealed that the man sexually abused his victim on multiple occasions over a six-month period when she was 16 years old.
According to a press release, an investigation was launched into allegations of child sexual abuse after the victim disclosed the abuse to an investigator for the Department of Family and Protective Services (commonly referred to as Child Protective Services, or “CPS”) for unrelated reasons. Police authorities investigated the case.
During the trial, evidence showed that the accused had recently brought the victim to the United States from Nigeria with the promise of a better life.
In a separate trial, another man was also convicted on felony charges of Sexual Assault of a Child and Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact on August 1, 2019. During the trial, evidence was presented against the 39-year old man, that he had known the victim he abused for a number of years, and that she had trusted him. During the victim’s testimony, it was revealed that the man also threatened to sexually abuse her younger sibling.
On August 2 the jury assessed 15 years in prison for Sexual Assault of a Child and 8 years for Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact.
Sexual Assault of a Child and Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact are both second-degree felonies punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
