Beware of DWI Conviction Don’t Drive While Drunk – It’s Not Worth It

Despite numerous public campaigns against the dangers of driving while drunk, every year thousands of people are still getting arrested and penalized with prison sentences and heavy fines for DWI Conviction. If you’ve been drinking at a party or celebrating, it’s a bad idea to drive if you’ve had a drink or two. Drunk drivers cause serious and fatal accidents. The numbers are frightening than you might think.

In Pearland, a man crashed his vehicle while intoxicated. He later used Uber to catch a ride from a hospital, only to find police waiting at his home.

According to authorities, the 48-year old driver exhibited signs of intoxication after the crash on Sept. 26 but claimed to have an injury and was transported to a hospital.

Once at the hospital, the driver reportedly refused treatment and called an Uber. Hospital personnel notified police, and an officer greeted the man at his home when the Uber driver arrived. The driver was transported to the police department, where a blood search warrant was executed. He faces charges for DWI-second offense and unlawfully carrying weapons.

Drunk Driving Accidents

In 2016 alone, more than 10,000 people were killed by drunk drivers. The victims were the people who were passengers of the drunk driver, and to those who were in other vehicles and pedestrians. So, it is definitely a poor decision on your side to operate a vehicle when drunk.

Average Age of Drunk Drivers

Most of the drunk drivers fall in the age range of 18 and 24 years. In fact, this demographic constitutes over 25 percent of all DWI arrests.  This population also happens to be the largest repeat offenders by far. Many states are working on amending their DWI laws. For instance, Washington State is making DWI into a felony if the same person is detained for DWI Conviction for more than two times. Some states are taking it even further. They want any DWI a felony offense.

Types of Alcohol Involved In DWI Arrests and Conviction

Over half of arrested for DWI were found to be drinking beer. 20 percent admitted to consuming more than one type of alcohol before getting behind the wheel. People can get intoxicated rather quickly if their drinks contain more than one type of alcohol.

A Woman Was Driving Erratically And Got Arrested Due To DWI

A DWI charge is anything but serious. It can lead to a criminal conviction and the possibility of a suspended driving license. In Katy, a woman was arrested for DWI after she erratically drove near the intersections of Morton Road and Katy Fort bend around noon on July 20, 2017.

Fortunately, a Katy-man noticed the woman after she sat through a green light with cars behind her and no signs of any car trouble. When he drove by her, he noticed that she “seemed” to be passed out in the driver seat with a young girl in the passenger seat.

According to the Katy-man, he immediately slowed down to see if everything was all right when he noticed in his mirror that as she turned she took a wide turn and hit the curb before swerving to the other side of the road and hitting the other curb. The Katy-man added he just knew something wasn’t right so he immediately made a U-turn and started following her.”

He quickly called 911, and was told by the dispatcher that they “would send someone to see if they could find the car.” Fearing they would not be able to find the vehicle, the Katy man decided to follow her and record the whole thing on Facebook Live in the hopes of getting immediate attention.

In the video, the woman can be seen taking extremely wide turns and on some occasions hitting curbs, swerving into oncoming traffic and driving into the grass until she finally arrives at a house where her young teenage daughter tried helping her out of the car.

Katy police later notified the Katy man that the woman was arrested on DWI charges a few hours later after getting behind the wheel a second time.

He was also told she has since posted bail.

Consider Hiring an Experienced Defense Attorney If Charged With DWI

Under the law of Texas, DWI is a criminal offense that can have extremely serious legal consequences. The police authorities are now actively searching for people who violate the law and most drivers learn that they can be arrested and accused of DWI even after only a few drinks.

On the other hand, there are also those who worry for their hospital patients because a doctor was charged with three DWI convictions. An accomplished Texas neurosurgeon’s resume may be impressive, but a closer look at her history reveals a series of troubling run-ins with the law.

The surgeon, who is currently employed in a hospital in Texas, was arrested for drunk driving in Wisconsin in March 2016 and again in 2014 and 1991. The Video footage of the surgeon’s most recent DWI arrest shows her making a phone call from jail the morning she was scheduled to perform two surgeries. “Call the office at 8 a.m. and tell them that I’ve had…I don’t know f***ing what to say,” during the call. Footage also shows the surgeon interacting with a police officer the moment she was pulled over.

Earlier that night, police said the surgeon visited a hair salon, acted belligerently and knocked over a display. The surgeon is one of four surgeons employed in a hospital in Texas. One patient told in a TV show she’s worried by the surgeon because she has “people’s lives in her hands.”

A DWI charge is anything but serious. It can lead to a criminal conviction and the possibility of a suspended driving license. An individual charged with a DWI conviction will have dire implications not only in his/her personal life but on their insurance rates as well.

On March 16, 2017, a 31-year old Richmond man was arrested after crashing into an off-duty police officer while driving the wrong way on U.S. 90-A.

According to officials, the man was driving the wrong way on U.S. 90-A near the Valero gas station just east of the Brazos River when he crashed into an off-duty police officer on his way to work. When Richmond Police officers arrived, they noticed the man’s slurred speech, red glassy eyes, and the smell of alcohol.

He was belligerent; yelling at officers, and had trouble maintaining his balance. The defendant refused to undergo an intoxication evaluation and was eventually transported to the hospital. The defendant kept apologizing and said he was just fired from his job, possibly getting a divorce, and had too much on his mind. The man didn’t have any auto insurance and was driving without a valid driver’s license.

Driving While Intoxicated in this case is a Class B Misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,000. The judge assessed the driver’s punishment at 18 months’ probation, including a $1,000 fine, 64 hours of community service, a DWI education class, and attendance at a victim impact panel where offenders hear from DWI victims who survived to tell their story.
