A chemist from the Texas Department of Public Safety testified and confirmed that the drug found near the man was meth and it weighed more than four grams.
The man also has prior convictions which were presented as evidence during the trial. He was convicted in 2001 of aggravated robbery and attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer.
He also was convicted in 2014 of felony theft and evading arrest/detention with a vehicle.
The man must serve at least one-fourth of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

The deputy found 252 bottles of prescription promethazine syrup in the van’s floor storage bins and in other areas throughout the van, police said. The deputy also found marijuana.
