Ex-County Deputy Sentenced For Child Pornography

A charge of possession of child pornography should be taken seriously. Not only does conviction carry with it the possibility of more than 30 years in prison, but it also requires that you register as a sex offender, which can negatively impact your ability to obtain any housing or employment following your release from prison.

A former Sheriff’s deputy was given a lengthy prison sentence in a child pornography case that a veteran Houston federal judge called “one of the most disagreeable cases” he had seen on the bench.

The 31-year old former patrol officer, stood handcuffed in an orange jail uniform and rubber shoes, eyes downcast, as the judge ordered him into the custody of the Bureau of Prisons for more than 27 years. The judge added a lifetime of supervision after he is released from prison and no contact with children without the express permission of a probation officer.

The judge said the images found on his electronic devices of babies and children being sexually abused were “some of most horrific” he’d seen. The case also involved multiple lewd videos of a child who had been an invited guest for a sleepover at the defendant’s home, which the judge called particularly troubling.

The devastating emotional impact to the child victim and her family became apparent when the girl’s mother addressed the ex-deputy for several minutes before a packed courtroom, reading a statement that framed the ex-county deputy, a family friend, as the personification of evil, a monster hiding in plain sight.

The former deputy also addressed the judge and made a tearful statement, expressing remorse for his actions, the impact on his family, former colleagues in law enforcement and the victims. He said he also feared what’s to come for him.
