Family assault is one of the most common criminal charges in Texas. If not defended properly by a family assault lawyer, it could lead to a more serious consequence.
The Woodlands Township Board of Directors received a sobering report on crime statistics in the fourth quarter of 2017, including a double-digit percentage increase in assaults as well as the verification of two murder-suicide incidents in October and December. They highlighted three main areas of crime: homicides, assaults, and robberies.
According to police authorities, there were 93 assaults, which is an increase of 19 percent from the prior quarter. The majority of those were family-related.
For the year of 2017, police officers provided statistics which showed 254 family violence assaults as well as an additional 129 non-family assaults. Police said the definition of a family assault is wide-ranging and can include several forms of unwanted touching such as merely grabbing another person’s wrist.
In 2016, there were 223 family-related assaults reported as well as 132 non-family assaults registered.
In Fort Worth, a woman stabbed her boyfriend while they were inside a semi-truck. The 25-year old woman faces a charge of family aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the stabbing.
Officers responded about 11 p.m. to a gas station where they found the man who had been stabbed while he was in the cab of the semi-truck.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
