Child pornography is a class 2 felony that when convicted, the charge carries a mandatory minimum of four to 15 years in prison, or 30 years if any of the images are of children under age 13. Conviction of possession of child pornography also requires registration as a sex offender.
A charge of possession of child pornography should be taken seriously. Not only does conviction carry with it the possibility of more than 30 years in prison, but it also requires that you register as a sex offender, which can negatively impact your ability to obtain any housing or employment following your release from prison.
A former sex offender in Rosenberg is accused of possessing child pornography and has been arrested by police.
The 47-year old man is facing two counts of possession of child pornography, according to the Rosenberg Police Department. Police said they discovered the child pornography after executing a warrant at a home in Bamore Road.
The police did not release further details on what was found at the man’s home while he is being held in the Fort Bend County jail as of Friday.
Rosenberg police said the man was required to register as a sex offender following a 1992 conviction of indecency with a child. The law at the time only required him to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
Fort Bend County clerk records show the man was charged with failure to register as a sex offender twice, once on Nov. 4, 2002, and again on July 21, 2003.
This is just one of the many cases why you should consult and seek help from a defense lawyer when you are accused of a crime including child pornography. No one is above the law, even if you are a high-ranking government official.
