Despite numerous public campaigns against the dangers of driving while drunk, every year thousands of people are still getting arrested and penalized with prison sentences and heavy fines for DWI Conviction. If you’ve been drinking at a party or celebrating, it’s a bad idea to drive if you’ve had a drink or two. Drunk drivers cause serious and fatal accidents. The numbers are frightening than you might think.
In Pearland, a man crashed his vehicle while intoxicated. He later used Uber to catch a ride from a hospital, only to find police waiting at his home.
According to authorities, the 48-year old driver exhibited signs of intoxication after the crash on Sept. 26 but claimed to have an injury and was transported to a hospital.
Once at the hospital, the driver reportedly refused treatment and called an Uber. Hospital personnel notified police, and an officer greeted the man at his home when the Uber driver arrived. The driver was transported to the police department, where a blood search warrant was executed. He faces charges for DWI-second offense and unlawfully carrying weapons.
Drunk Driving Accidents
In 2016 alone, more than 10,000 people were killed by drunk drivers. The victims were the people who were passengers of the drunk driver, and to those who were in other vehicles and pedestrians. So, it is definitely a poor decision on your side to operate a vehicle when drunk.
Average Age of Drunk Drivers
Most of the drunk drivers fall in the age range of 18 and 24 years. In fact, this demographic constitutes over 25 percent of all DWI arrests. This population also happens to be the largest repeat offenders by far. Many states are working on amending their DWI laws. For instance, Washington State is making DWI into a felony if the same person is detained for DWI Conviction for more than two times. Some states are taking it even further. They want any DWI a felony offense.
Types of Alcohol Involved In DWI Arrests and Conviction
Over half of arrested for DWI were found to be drinking beer. 20 percent admitted to consuming more than one type of alcohol before getting behind the wheel. People can get intoxicated rather quickly if their drinks contain more than one type of alcohol.
