Child pornography is a class 2 felony that when convicted, the charge carries a mandatory minimum of four to 15 years in prison, or 30 years if any of the images are of children under age 13. Conviction of possession of child pornography also requires registration as a sex offender.

A 32-year old teacher was arrested by Harris County Constable Precinct 4 office near Humble for possession and promotion of child pornography. According to reports, the constables received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, regarding an individual near Humble believed to be in possession of child pornography.

Investigators were able to determine that the teacher had been electronically sharing and storing child pornography images.

A search warrant for the teacher’s residence was executed in the early hours of April 4 and yielded images, literature, and videos of children being sexually exploited and sexually assaulted. Investigators also went to his school and seized his computer for analysis. The investigation will continue with detailed forensic exams of the remaining electronic devices found in the teacher’s possession in order to determine the magnitude of child pornography.

As a result of this offense that was recovered at his home, the teacher was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with five counts of Possession of Child Pornography and one count of Promotion of Child Pornography. His total bond was set at $22,500.

A charge of possession of this wrongdoing should be taken seriously. Not only does conviction carry with it the possibility of more than 30 years in prison, but it also requires that you register as a sex offender, which can negatively impact your ability to obtain any housing or employment following your release from prison.

This is just one of the many cases why you should consult and seek help from a defense lawyer when you are accused of a crime including child pornography.
