DWI is a serious offense, and if not defended properly by a defense lawyer, could lead to a more serious scenario. Just like what happened to a certain driver in Houston.

On Oct.5, 2016, a 42-year old Houston man was convicted of driving while intoxicated by a jury after it deliberated for only 30 minutes. The judge sentenced the man in the county jail. He was arrested after almost crashing into a police car in May 2014. The man was stopped about 1 a.m. after running a red light and almost striking a police car on May 18, 2014, according to a news release. The defendant admitted to drinking several beers earlier in the evening and six beer bottles were found throughout the vehicle – three of them open, and not all of them empty.

Officers said they smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man and observed him have slurred speech and red glassy eyes. Police evaluated the defendant for intoxication using the standardized field sobriety tests after which he was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He also refused to provide a sample of his breath or blood for alcohol testing. Two other passengers were present in the vehicle and were also arrested for public intoxication.
