In League City, police arrested the stepson of a man who was fatally shot after he aggressively wielded a samurai sword as officers were serving a search warrant.
The 20-year old man was arrested on two state felony charges of possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. Both charges were enhanced to a 3rd-degree felony due to the offenses occurring in a Drug-Free Zone near a school.
The man was arrested after police officers went to his around 5 a.m. to execute a search warrant for narcotics and weapons.
During the investigation, police detectives observed “numerous hand to hand narcotics transactions” taking place in the front yard of the residence. Multiple suspects were arrested as they left the residence after making purchases of illegal drugs and illegal firearms.
As the officers were searching the home, one officer entered a bedroom to find the man’s stepfather wielding a samurai sword “in an aggressive posture.” Police officers fired a “bean bag”, or flexible baton round at the stepfather, who would not stand down. Police then fired several shots from his rifle, killing the man at the scene.

It is possible that you’ve been charged with Illegal Possession Of Controlled Substance and not sure what to do next. Truth be told, the process is not as complicated as what most people think. But it is important that you know what to expect, so you can protect yourself.
An example of this happened to a 36-year-old man when he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for possession of a controlled substance.
The man was found in Oct. 2016 with illegal drugs after a traffic stop by a deputy from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. The jury decided his punishment after a three-day trial in court.
During testimony brought up in the trial, jurors learned the deputy attempted to stop the driver on Oct. 18 after he noticed the man’s car had a defective brake lamp.
When the deputy tried to stop the man, he did not immediately yield. The man then began moving his car into a driveway and finally into a front yard.
When the man finally stopped, prosecutors said he became “belligerent” when the deputy approached, and he asked why he was being stopped.
The deputy found several packages of a crystallized substance near the man, which was later identified as methamphetamine.
He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance between 4 to 200 grams.
A chemist from the Texas Department of Public Safety testified and confirmed that the drug found near the man was meth and it weighed more than four grams.
The man also has prior convictions which were presented as evidence during the trial. He was convicted in 2001 of aggravated robbery and attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer.
He also was convicted in 2014 of felony theft and evading arrest/detention with a vehicle.
The man must serve at least one-fourth of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
